A beautiful smile can boost your confidence, but sometimes factors like a gummy smile or excess gum tissue can affect the appearance of your teeth. A gingivectomy offers a solution that can improve both oral health and aesthetics. At Palm Beach Center for Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, we specialize in helping you achieve a healthier, more attractive smile through this procedure.
A gingivectomy is a procedure that involves removing excess gum tissue. It is commonly used to treat conditions like gum disease or to correct a gummy smile. By carefully trimming away unnecessary gum tissue, the procedure can expose more of your tooth surface, creating a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
The gingivectomy procedure begins with a thorough examination of your gums. Once the treatment plan is in place, your periodontist will use a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Using specialized tools, they will then carefully remove the excess gum tissue. In many cases, a laser is used to make the process more precise and to minimize bleeding and discomfort.
After the tissue is removed, the area is cleaned and disinfected to promote healing. Your periodontist will provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
Improved Smile Aesthetics: For those with a gummy smile, a gingivectomy can create a more proportionate balance between teeth and gums, giving you a more confident, radiant smile. The procedure helps to expose more of your teeth, making them appear longer and more symmetrical.
Enhanced Oral Health: In addition to aesthetic improvements, a gingivectomy can also improve your oral health. Removing excess gum tissue helps eliminate spaces where bacteria can hide, reducing the risk of gum disease and improving overall gum health.
Easier Cleaning: Excess gum tissue can make it difficult to thoroughly clean your teeth and gums. A gingivectomy makes it easier to maintain proper oral hygiene by exposing more tooth surface, allowing you to brush and floss more effectively.
Treating Gum Disease: Gingivectomies are often recommended as part of the treatment for advanced periodontal disease. By removing the diseased tissue, your periodontist can help stop the progression of gum disease and prevent further damage to your teeth and gums.
If you're struggling with a gummy smile, difficulty maintaining oral hygiene, or are dealing with periodontal disease, a gingivectomy may be an ideal solution. At Palm Beach Center for Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, we customize each treatment plan to meet your unique needs, ensuring that your oral health and smile aesthetics are fully addressed.

Dr. Cohen is a genuinely awesome person, and he really prioritizes patient comfort. I’d love to elaborate about my actual surgery, but don’t remember much honestly. It was pain free and went by like a breeze, and a week out I don’t think I felt much pain at all. All of his staff are wonderful, and the happy vibes from everyone makes the whole patient experience perfect. If you need periodontal work, there’s no reason not to see Dr. Cohen, they are the best!

I was having very bad mouth pain and Dr Cohen made time to do surgery the very next day. I was very nervous about the surgery but Dr Cohen explained everything very well and the procedure was painless. I had no pain after the surgery and was able to go on a business trip the very next day. I highly recommend Dr Cohen.

I’ve got to say, this was one of the easiest procedures I ever had in my life as far as dental work goes. Even easier than getting my teeth cleaned! . Dr. Cohen and his staff are excellent and made me feel very comfortable. They explained everything in detail and left no loose ends. I had absolutely no discomfort, no pain, no bruising or bleeding (this is very rare for me!), and very little swelling on which I used ice packs the first day. If you are considering this procedure, LANAP, please don’t be the least bit hesitant. In my opinion, it was a piece of cake!!! Thank You, Dr. Cohen and Staff, for all you did for me!!
