Palm Beach Center for Periodontics & Implant Dentistry Receives an Implant Research Grant

Palm Beach Gardens Periodontics & Implant Dentistry Office News!Dr. Lee R. Cohen has received a grant from Nobel Biocare to study the amount of bone and gum tissue that can be saved by placing both dental implants (a new tooth root) and their crowns at the same time teeth are extracted.

Typically, there is a waiting period before you may receive a crown on your implant (to allow for the bone and implant to heal).  Frequently, patients have either a space where the tooth was removed or a temporary, removable denture hiding the area during healing.  New studies are showing that, in certain circumstances, placing the crown on the implant at the same time the implant is placed, may actually protect from bone and gum loss.  This can be VERY important, especially if the area is visible when you speak or smile.  Please ask Dr. Cohen if this treatment option is appropriate for you.

I-CAT CT Scanner Allows for “Guided Implant Surgery” and an Increase in Safety

Our new, state-of-the-art facility is equipped with a CT Scanner that is limited to the head and neck.  This 35 second scan allows Dr. Cohen to view your vital anatomy (such as nerves and sinuses) in a 3D manner.  Traditional dental x-rays do not offer this type of detail.  This additional information can be used to help place dental implants in a safer and more accurate manner.

Guided Implant Surgery is a cutting-edge procedure that utilizes your CT Scan, along with special software, to actually plan and place your future implants in a 3D fashion.  This information is then utilized to create a guide that will be used during the surgery.  The guide will let the implants be placed precisely where they were planned on your CT Scan.  This technology offers a tremendous safety advantage (since we have performed the surgery in advance in your scan).  Less post-operative discomfort typically exists because there are no incisions, no sutures, and the procedure is usually less than an hour long.
